The InnovAfrica team is organizing a pre-conference mini symposium on 4th December from 13:00h – 15:00h as part of the 4th International Conference on Global Food Security: Achieving local and global food security: at what costs?

The objective of the mini symposia is to increase interactions among scientific communities, practitioners, policy makers and to enrich the experience of the participants to the conference by addressing cross cutting and/or emerging issues such as climate change on global food security in general and particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.

The mini symposium will focus on innovation in technology, institutional and extension approaches towards sustainable agriculture and enhanced food and nutrition security in Africa. In addition, the mini-symposium will:

  • Address cross cutting and/or emerging issues on global food security (Food production, access, utilization, stability
  •   Complement the presentation of works in the main Global Food Security conference programme. 

Some of the research results from the InnovAfrica project on SAIs (e.g. crop diversification using maize/millets with legumes, Brachiaria forage grass); EASs pilot cases (e.g. village knowledge centers (VKC), integrated farm plan (PIP), farmer to farmer knowledge exchange) and IIAs (e.g. multi-actor platforms (MAP)) will be presented and discussed in relation to their specific impacts on FNS and other relevant SDGs.

The session will be chaired by Udaya Sekhar Nagothu, project coordinator, InnovAfrica and moderated by Esther Bloem with project participants  including: Sita Ghimire from BecA-ILRI Hub, Kenya; Mehreteab Tesfai from NIBIO, Norway; Henk Wosten from Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands; Donald Njarui from KALRO, Kenya; and Giacomo Branca from Tuscia University, Italy.

The 4th International Conference on Global Food Security will be held online, through an interactive livestream from the 4th to the 9th of December 2020, 12:00 – 18:00 CET, Montpellier, France.
